Pockets. To create a new pocket, right-click or Apple-click on a clear blue area above or below an existing pocket, or anywhere below the Title Bar if Portfolio currently has no pockets. From the menu that pops up, select the only item, Add new pocket.

Each pocket has three components or parts:

  • the Pocket Title, including the icon label, the arrow, and the text field for the pocket name
  • the Graphics applet, which is nearly identical to the stand-alone Graphics applet
  • the right Sidebar of the pocket, which you use to change the pocket size, insert new pockets, show/hide the Title, and delete the pocket itself.

Pocket Title

  • Image: You can label pockets as belonging to different categories (e.g., ideas, notes, unresolved issues) by choosing the appropriate icon. To choose a new icon, click on the image and select an icon from the menu. The option paste from clipboard pastes the last snapshot or the last image chosen from the Image Palette.

You must edit the HTML source to change the number of images (parameter number), the image files (parameters image0, image1, etc.), and the names given the images (parameters name0,name1, etc.). See the help page for
    Portfolio parameters.
  • Arrow: Click on the blue arrow to hide or reveal the Graphics applet.
  • Name Field: Type the title of the pocket in the text field provided. The text is bold by design. You cannot change the size, style, or font of the text in the name field.

Graphics Applet

The central component of the pocket is just a small graphics applet. A graphics applet is basically a simulator with only one palette--the Graphics palette plus a Select button. The Standard Menu and all keyboard editing functions are still available. You can even save a setup from a graphics applet contained within Portfolio and load it into another Portfolio pocket or even into a freestanding graphics applet.

You cannot use editing functions between different pockets. For example, you cannot copy an text box in one pocket and paste it into another pocket. To copy the text box, you must use Save and Load to copy the entire contents of a pocket as described above. You can use the Snapshot and Paste tools between pockets.

If you use Save from the Standard Menu, you save the contents of only one pocket, not the contents of the entire Portfolio Idea Container. Likewise, if you use Load, you only load a setup into a single pocket.

Each pocket has a timestamp that records the time the pocket was created. This timestamp cannot be changed or deleted. If you use Save, the timestamp is saved as part of the setup. Hence, if you load the saved setup into a different pocket, you will reset the timestamp of that pocket.
