Login Applet. Use the Login applet to enter the CPU Activity Structure. You must login to use the Save and Load features of the Activity structure.

Enter a name and a group in the Your Name and Your Group fields, respectively. These fields are not case-sensitive. Name can be a first name, last name, or pseudonym. Group can be a student group, class, or just an individual. Teachers must use the name Teacher if they wish to create default setups (see the Save applet).

Click Done. The first time that a new user logs in, the Login applet asks for confirmation that it can add a new user to the database. Click Yes to confirm (or No if you made an error when you typed the name or group) .

After you click Done (or Yes), the Login applet opens a file called index.htm. This file is a contents page that you can modify using an HTML editor.

Warning: The CPU software regards each name/group combination as a distinct user. Users in the same group do not have access to each others' saved setups. Users with the same login name who belong to different groups do not share saved setups either.

Example: The four users below share either group or name with another user. Yet each user has access only to his or her saved setups.

name: arthur group: camelot
name: guinevere group: camelot
name: arthur group: round table
name: guinevere group: round table

Note to Teachers: Users who login under the name Teacher can always modify or overwrite default setups. For example, suppose Teacher of group Class1 saves a default setup for Ripple Lab. Later in the day, Teacher of group Class2 saves a setup for Ripple Lab. She will overwrite the first teacher's setup unless "her" Ripple Lab is located on a different HTML document (web page).
