Thomas Rice Biography

Dr. Tom Rice is the Education and Mentoring Specialist at the American Astronomical Society. He works to coordinate the astronomical community's efforts to improve effectiveness and equity in astronomy education. An astronomer by training, he earned his Ph.D. at the University of Michigan and taught for several years at Columbia University and the City University of New York before joining AAS Education. Dr. Rice comes from a Deaf family who use American Sign Language at home, and he was a first-generation college student at Harvard University.
