Research Validation Summary

Based on Research Into:

  • Student thinking

Studied Using:

  • Student interviews
  • Expert review
  • Appropriate statistical analysis

Research Conducted:

  • At multiple institutions
  • By multiple research groups
  • Peer-reviewed publication

The topics included on the DHD were determined by instructors that had experience teaching relevant courses. The developers then created questions for these topics, created an initial version of the test, and iteratively developed it using expert review and student input. The DHD was tested with over 1200 students in the UK and Ireland, and revised. Appropriate statistical analyses of reliability, difficulty and discrimination were performed, and reasonable values found. Information about the DHD has been published in one publication.
